Question:
Expecting too much? I thought it was understood and agreed upon when I proceeded to get a partial, that it would (1) fit, (2) meet the bottom teeth it was above, so I could actually chew, and (3) look pretty much like the other teeth - specifically in length.
What I got was a partial that is about half the length of the other teeth. I am told the problem is with MY TEETH! Was I expecting too much? ....Visitor from MN
Answer:
I think you have answered your own questions.
You were not wrong to have expectations but if they weren't explained, you should get
explanations to your concerns.
If your dentist can't help you, go get a second opinion. Partials are horrible, transitional appliances that should be temporary until implants can be placed to restore missing teeth.
Partials put pressure on remaining teeth, loosen the teeth they are clasped to, create plaque and food traps, allow for yeast infections and have unsightly clasps.
After 5 years only 20% of people are still wearing their partials.
So in my practice the pros and cons of partials are discussed so people are aware of what they can expect from these transitional prostheses.
