Question:
Allergic to materials: I have upper and lower partials that I'm still getting used to after a month.
They hurt my mouth and by the end of the day I cough and can barely swallow, gums, jaw and the roof of my mouth are so sore I can't eat. I'm allergic to metals and latex. Could this be the issue of why it's taking so long for me to adapt to these items?
My dentist doesn't seem concerned about my concerns and I'm becoming irritated with the results. .... Visitor from MI
Answer:
Sorry you are having a problem. You don't mention if these are your first partials or if they ae replacements of some older ones.
If it is your first experience, you may need to give it a bit more time, although at this point, you should not be having much pain.
On occasion, the dentist has to restore the height of your bite with the partials and this can cause some of the problems you have described. You may need to return to the dentist but try to be as specific as possible when listing your complaints.
The latex shouldn't be as issue but if you know what types of metal to which you have an allergy, you should provide taht information to the dentist. Hope this helps.
