Question:
I recently had a parial bridge put in. {Last 10 months} Should your jaw bone hurt after this long of a time? I have not felt good since having this put in.
What is the possibility of being allergic to the metal? My dentist told me it is 95% non-allergic materal. Could I be in the 5% that is having a reaction to the metal in my bridge? If so what steps can I take to see? ...Judy
Answer:
Judy, partial dentures can be wonderful or terrible. There seems to be no in
between. The partial should fit passively on the tissue put no pressure on the teeth when fitting properly. The clasps or wires that are around the teeth from the partial are there to prevent the partial from dislodging while you eat but pressure is absorbed by the soft tissue and bone.
If the partial hurts you with no pressure, the partial does not fit and you should return to your dentist. If the partial only hurts when pressure is applied, to the teeth or tissue, it does not fit and you need to return to your dentist. Allergic reactions to dental materials are very rare and do not usually cause pain but redness and swelling.
You have to have an open dialogue with your dentist to explain what is happening. To say you have not felt good, I am assuming your mouth is sore? If you have not felt well over all, that is a different story.
