Question:
My 3 year old has an abcess, he is on Amoxcillin 250MG.. does it need draining?
Answer:
Whenever an abcess is present, the only treatment is an extraction of the tooth (removal of the tooth). An abcessed tooth in the primary dentition (baby teeth) can only be treated with an extraction.
I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear; but this is the only treatment. Antibiotics will rid the abcess; but will return if the source of the infection (the tooth) is not removed. The antibiotic that you are using is the drug of choice for an abcessed tooth.
