Question:
My child is 20 months old and I was recently informed he is in need of dental caps on his front teeth. My question for you: How common of a procedure is this? Would you recommend this procedure for a 20month old baby or should I wait until he is older? ...July

Answer:
July, placing crowns on primary teeth is not uncommon and I perform this procedure every day. Granted, 20 months is young; but I still do it. If you wait, the decay/cavity will only increase and could cause more harm if left untreated. Also, if you are still having them sleep with a bottle, stop as soon as possible because this is what's causing the decay.
