Question:
My five year old son grinds his teeth at night. Are there teeth guards that could prevent him from doing so while he sleeps. ...Margaret in GA
Answer:
Margaret, grinding is very common in children and will usually stop by the time they are between 7-8 years of age. We will typically not place night guards or splints until this age for a couple of reasons.
First, at 5, children usually will not be compliant with the appliance and second, we want to protect the permanent teeth and at 5, there are not any permanent teeth.
