Question:
My daughter has a tooth on the bottom that is very loose. I think they refer to it as the stomach tooth. Is she supposed to lose this tooth? And if she does lose it, will it cause problems down the road?

Answer:
At 9 years of age, your daughter will have several teeth that are loose or are getting ready to become loose. I'm assumming that you are referring to the canine or cuspid or sometimes called the "I tooth".

To answer your question - Yes, this tooth should be loose and is usually the next tooth to come out after the top lateral incisors (the 2 next to the center teeth, on the side of the center teeth). So, do not be alarmed.

Also, this will not pose any problems down the road and if she did not lose the tooth, may pose a problem. Losing the tooth is natural and should be done.
