Question:
Pregnancy and Wisdom Tooth Abcess: I am 27 weeks pregnant and have an abcess in a wisdom tooth.
What do I do? I just got off amoxicillin for a abcess in a wisdom tooth. The dentist wants me to go to an oral surgeon.
This dentist was rude and would not answer any question I had. Is it safe to have a tooth pulled while pregnant?
Also I have had pain on my left side of my jaw near my ear. It is stiff in the morning. All of my doctors think I have a TMJ issue but the dentist says I don't because I can stick 3 fingers in my mouth and it is not locked. ...Visitor from Tenessee
Answer:
Having any surgical procedure done while you are pregnant has the potential of affecting your baby.
I would recommend that you see an oral surgeon and that he or she consult with your obstetrician before any treatment is performed.
One good thing is that you are in your last trimester of the pregnancy and the baby is not developing as fast as at the beginning of your pregnancy.
