Question:
Permanent Retainers: My daughter will have her braces removed in a few weeks.
Her orthodontist said only the bottom teeth can get a permenant retainer, not the top. He claims that a top retainer will cause the teeth not to align.
I know people who have the top and not the bottom. What is the proper or correct orthodontic procedure for this? ... Visitor from IL
Answer:
You can do a bonded retainer across the upper front teeth, but I prefer to use a removal retainer to allow the teeth to settle nicely into occlusion.
The bonded upper retainers have a tendency to break easily, unlike the lower, and so we prefer to use removable retainers because of this reason.
