Question:
I had the second part of a root canal done 4 days ago. I was told I have 3 roots in the tooth worked on, and an instrument about 1mm was used to clean out of the root, but got stuck in the canal. The endodontist told me that there is only a 2 percent chance of damage or problems because of this. How concerned should I be? Do I need to get anything in writing stating the situation and possible side effects? I was told the instrument would not show up on an xray. ...Jennifer in PA
Answer:
Jennifer, sounds to me like you don't have much to worry about, especially if nothing shows on the x-ray. It is a common problem to have broken instruments considering they're so small and fragile. It's actually amazing that it doesn't happen more often than it does. Just have an x-ray taken once a year to make sure nothing is wrong. If there is a problem, then maybe
surgery can fix it, but I doubt you should be worried about it now.
