Dental Phobia: Alternatives to sedation medications
Question:
I have to have a widsom tooth out and would like to be sedated due to a previous bad experience with extraction. However, I'm a nursing mother to a 9 month old. How will the anesthesia affect my baby? I'm nursing 3 times a day: 6:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m., and 9:00 p.m.

How long will it be in my system? Any help you could give would be appreciated since many dentists around here have no idea about the effects on nursing. ...Angela in PA

Answer:
It depends on what agents are used to sedate you. Your baby will most likely ingest what you do. Usually it takes a few days for these meds to be eliminated from your body. I would not recommend it.
