Question:
Sedation and Cancer Therapy: I'm phobic about dentists.
My teeth are terrible with missing teeth and fillings that are gone etc. I need dentures but am frightened of the "chair". I am also going through cancer treatments.
Can I have my teeth pulled while going to radiation treatments? ...Visitor from PA
Answer:
I'm sorry to hear you are going through cancer treatments.
Usually your Oncology and Radiology doctors have their patients complete all needed extractions and dental care done before starting chemo or radiation treatment. This is because the cancer therapy can cause delayed or non-healing of the extraction sites, and dental infections can complicate the treatment.
If you are undergoing radation treatment, it would probably be best to complete your treatment and make sure your white blood cell counts are closer to normal before you have multiple dental extractions or major dental care.
