Question:
Dental Sensitivity/ Root Canal Issues/ Abnormal Decay: I am AVID about my oral hygiene and use all the right products and at home. Even RX flouride toothpaste and an electric toothbrush.
I've been told by my dentist that I have abnormally fast tooth decay. I've had many fillings and crowns, almost every one of them requiring a root canal a short time later due to EXTREME tooth sensitivity and pain.
I've also been told I have abnormally long roots, which require a specialist to perform the root canals. No one can figure out why my teeth are rapidly decaying. My diet is not high in sugar or acidic. I don't drink sugary drinks, candy, or juice. I also experience phantom pain in teeth that appear fine on xrays.
Ideas? Please help! Going broke ...Visitor from KY
Answer:
Wow, not a good situation for anyone involved at this point.
Dentists hate to see their work fail especially when everyone seems to be doing the right things.
All I can suggest is to evaluate your overall health to eliminate systemic diseases as a cause.
Consult with a Periodontist to have your saliva evaluated for ph, volume and makeup. Make a diary of everything that goes into your mouth for a week including the time it was consumed.
There has to be an answer, it's just a matter of analytically eliminating factors until you find the cause. Best of luck
