Question:
Crowns to fix enamel now cause sensitivity: A year ago I had my top 8 front teeth capped due to the enamel wearing very thin.
I then developed extreme sensitivity to hot and cold on the right side of the upper mouth. So.... my dentist did 2 root canals through the caps.
Since I now have sensitivity on the left side, I am also grinding my teeth all day. They feel very unnatural in my mouth. I have developed a very dry mouth.
The dentist seems to have no answer as to why I have these problems. ...Visitor from FL
Answer:
Sorry to hear that you are having such problems. Having sensitivity after having crowns done is not unusual although it may have been preventable.
If care was taken to protect the teeth after they were prepared perhaps you would not have had the sensitivity. Other possibilities that could have caused the problem are poor temporaries and irritation from the permanent cement.
However, that is water under the bridge.
Your problem now seems to be the anatomical design of the crowns. As for the dry mouth, I would first have to ask if the crowns have any metal in them. It is rare but some individuals have allergic reactions to certain metals. If that is the case, you may have to have them replaced with all ceramic crowns. Hope this has helped.
