Dynamics of Shift - Movement

Shifting Teeth FAQ Ask The Orthodontist James Awbrey Question:
Teeth Shifting Back: I wasn't very consistent with using my retainer when I first got my braces off.

Now, it's three years later and my teeth are practically back to the way they were. I'm not trying to use the retainer again, but it doesn't fit very well.

With time, will it start to fit better, or should I go back to my orthodontist? ... Visitor from CA

Answer:
It really depends on the amount of relaspe.

Now, if you are able to get the old retainer in and the misalignment is minor and you can wear it 24/7, you will see the teeth realign themselves.

If neither of those are possible because of the amount of relaspe you will need to see your orthodontist and may need to go back in braces.
