Question:
Wisdom Tooth causing Sinus Problems? I am 25 and I feel my top wisdom tooth is coming in on my left side on the top of my mouth.
I have been having extreme pain on my cheek, the side of my neck and the side of my head. Sometimes I have pain in my sinuses as well. Is this because of my tooth?
Can wisdom teeth cause pain on the side of my head, and give me sinus trouble? ....Visitor from IL
Answer:
Wisdom teeth can cause all of the problems that you described. The first step is having a panoramic x-ray taken which will show the position of the tooth in relation to the sinus. If it is determined that the wisdom tooth is causing the problems it should be carefully extracted.
It is imperative that the tooth is removed without causing an oral-antral fistula. This is a "hole" between the mouth and the sinus cavity. After the extraction do not "blow your nose," drink out of a straw or anything else which could cause the sinus membrane to rupture.
