Question:
When I was 28 years old, a dentist pulled my upper left wisdom tooth. He told me looked like 3 teeth had grown together and he had such a tough time pulling this tooth that he was worried about me afterwards. He said I may have sinus problems later because of the size of the tooth and how deep he had to go.
I'm 44 now and since he pulled this tooth, I've had nothing but problems. I haven't been to an ear, nose and throat doctor yet but have seen several dentists about this and they can't find anything wrong. My whole right side of my face swells, my eye gets bloodshot and red, I suffer from terrible fatigue when this starts acting up, and the pain is horrible.
My question is, do you suggest I now see an ear, nose and throat or another dentist in a specialty field? My upper teeth are very sensitive now and my gums above those teeth swell. This is all in the area that wisdom tooth was removed.
I just have never found a dentist who could tell me what to do or if having that wisdom tooth removed is actually what caused all the problems I'm having today. Any help will be deeply appreciated. Visitor from TX
Answer:
You may have a penumatized sinus opening caused by the extraction. You need facial x-rays and evaluation by an oral surgeon, first. Also make sure to have them take TMJ x-rays and evaluate your joints for any possible
compression problems. What you are experiencing is not normal and you need
specialty care.
