Question:
Repairing Sinus Cavity Perforation: I had #14 tooth removed.
Now my sinuses are leaking through my tooth hole. I now am told the tooth extraction caused a hole to my sinus.
Is this easy to rectify or will I now have sinus problems forever? I am also told I need a small surgery to close the hole. ....Visitor from MA
Answer:
When removing teeth it is not unusual for a root of a tooth to grow into a sinus. Removal of the tooth can lead to a communication into the sinus.
Sometimes these holes are small and with precautions i.e., no sneezing, no blowing the nose, gentle irrigation, the hole can close on it's own. When the hole is larger the tissue around the extraction site can be used to cover the opening.
This will prevent food and beverage from entering the sinus and creating an infection. It is a simple procedure that will heal uneventfully.
