Question:
I had a broken dow post where my left canine tooth was. It was broken for a long time.
I guess I didn't know it. I began feeling a pressure (it feels like something pushing up or over on the nasal floor). I have sinusitis and my sinus does not drain properly so there is always pressure in my face and eyes and I am tired all the time.
I have been to 3 ENTs, an allergist and the dentist who removed the dow post and replaced the bridge I had with a 6 tooth bridge with 2 false teeth. That did not help the sinus drainage problem and all of the doctors say my sinuses are fine.
Could there be scar tissue built up where the post was broken for 3 years that is causing a narrowing of where it drains? ... Visitor from FL
Answer:
From what you describe, the symptoms seem to indicate that there has been a breach of the sinus
cavity floor. These kinds of conditions are not uncommon when upper teeth are treated for root canals, dental implant surgery, extensive or invasive filling procedures, extractions
and other complex treatments.
A cone beam Catscan will probably do a better job of diagnosing the possibility of a breach than traditional 2D xrays. 3D imaging practically eliminates the need for guesswork since these kinds of digital xrays can be rotated to get a more complete view. 2D xrays don't do this.
The sinus lift procedure involves lifting or pushing up the sinus membrane while simultaneously injecting or inserting bone graft material into the area where the breach is. It is a fairly straight forward procedure that produces the desired results quickly.
Two videos of this procedure are on the website. Consult an Implant Periodontist or implant dentist who performs LOTS of implant procedures for details on your need for this type of treatment.
