Question:
Dental Implants - Sinus Lift:
2-3 years ago, I had 3 implants on the upper left side. They were fine for a few months but then began to feel uncomfortable, one in particular. There is an ache, a fuzzy tingling feeling.
This has been going on so long and the only thing that relieves it is a couple of glasses of wine. Pain killers don't seem to help. When the dentist removes the crowns and puts on some conical abutments with small temporaries the pain disappears but when the crowns go back the ache comes back.
The dentist did a sinus lift when he placed them and I wonder if the problem is to do with that. I have also recently had a bone graft to see if that would help but it is just as bad if not worse.
Do you have any advice.. no one here seems to know what to do when things go wrong. How easy is it to remove implants. I am sorry I had them done now as I cannot carry on as normal with this toothache.
Answer:
When implants are placed in the sinus region and sinus lifts are performed the membrane which lines the sinus is aggravated and will respond with an inflamatory response.
As the larger teeth are placed on the implant the pressure may touch the inflammed membrane and cause a dull pian. You may also be feeling a stuffiness in the nose and on that side of the face where the sinus is located.
I would recomend that you return to the dentist and also may want to consult with an ear, nose and throat medical Doctor.
