Question:
I had my teeth cleaned 2 weeks ago, the next day both sides of my face and jaw all the way to the upper ear was extrememly sore, I could hardly open my mouth. it felt like the face bone was cracking when I talked or opened my mouth.
I have my teeth cleaned every 3 months and never experienced anything like that. I called my dentist told the receptionist and she basically made an appt for 3 weeks, which was too long to wait and they didn't seem to be very concerened till today I still have pain on left side of my face and don't know why. (Could I got infected from unsanitized dental instruments?)
Wisdom teeth were never pulled out and never bothered me, my last tooth came out 5-6 yrs ago at age of 36 or 37, I have silver fillings and some bone loss. I'm 42 now, could any of these cause the pain? ...Visitor from Burlington, Ontario, Canada
Answer:
I doubt it, it sounds to me like you have neurological problems maybe
associated with your jaw joints. Without seeing your oral condition, I
couldn't give you a clue as to what is happening.
In terms of infection, I doubt it...the utensils in a restaurant are 100 times more unsanitary than even unsterile dental instruments! I would get a second opinion about the pain, get a periodontal evaluation and seek a specialist who deals with TMJ problems.
