Question:
Does Underbite worsen as we grow older? I have an underbite and wanted to know if it will continue to worsen with age or stops when I stopped growing?
I have lived with it for this long as I am 27 years old, but if it was to get worse maybe look into correcting. Also, how likely is it to pass on through my children? ...Visitor from Australia
Answer:
I think that you are saying that your lower jaw is small. If this is correct, it will probably not worsen with age.
The lower jaw has more tendency to grow forward as we age, so it probably not get worse with time and may get just a little better. Yes, it is likely that this will pass to your children.
I would suggest that you have an orthodontic consult for your children at about age 5. The orthodontist can use orthopedic devices to "grow" the lower jaw in children who are still growing. Hope this helps.
