Question:
Crowns vs. Veneers:
I fractured one of my front teeth several years ago and I bleach my teeth from time to time. It appears as though the fractured tooth is getting whiter than my other teeth. I am curious about having my front teeth veneered.
I was told that some people having their front teeth crowned as opposed to veneering. Which one do you suggest? Also, pros and cons of each. ...Visitor from AL
Answer:
If I can at all I prefer to use veneers on the front of the mouth since it allows me to take away much less tooth structure to do veneers. That is the biggest difference. With the all porcelain crowns or veneers you have a very difficult time distinguishing between the two.
If you have a lot of the tooth already compromised then the crown is the best way to go since you can support the weakened tooth with the bonded crown. In your case the crack may be an issue here that would just have to be evaluated.
Which one is used depends on the situation. There are a number of variables that can influence the decision so it takes some time to really decide which might be best for you.
