Question:
Repeated veneer failure: I have four veneers and 2 caps on my front teeth.
One veneer has fallen off twice (front tooth). Another has cracked and half fallen off the eye tooth.
Should I replace these two veneers with crowns? ... Visitor from PA
Answer:
The first thing that should be looked into is an unusual "occlusal" or bite event.
Veneers typically don't fall off due to cementation errors but rather changing bite characteristics. Once the suspected "bite dynamics" are resolved, the restoration failures you are having should cease.
Most accomplished veneer dentists complete an assessment of the bite characteristics before and after treatment to assure the veneers are fabricated and sized correctly. The use of temporary veneers usually assures treatment success.
Returning to your current dentist may not be in your best interests, considering the repetition of failures. Consider getting a consult with another "accomplished" veneer dentist.
