Question:
I had my wisdom teeth removed on Monday. My bottom teeth were impacted. On the right side of my lower jaw is very sore and swollen. It's been 4 days now with no change. I called my doctor and he gave me some antibiotics. How long will it take for the swollen area to go away? ...Michael in CA

Answer:
Mike, it can take quite some time to heal from wisdom tooth removal. I would recommend taking some Motrin for the inflammation and finish the antibiotics he/she gave you.

Impacted tooth removal usually involves removing bone to get the tooth out and this can cause swelling. Anti-inflammatory meds such as Motrin 800 mg. can help the swelling.
