Question:
Wisdom Teeth - Underbite? I did not have underbites when I was little, but about 1 to 2 weeks after my wisdom teeth grown, my bottom jaw started to push forward.

I was wondering will my jaw push back if I remove my wisdom teeth? I was 16 when my wisdom teeth started to grow, and now I am almost 17. ...Visitor from NY

Answer:
Your question is a very interesting one. What you are experiencing is not uncommon. When wisdom teeth erupt into the mouth, they often do so in a manner that cause interferences in the back of the mouth. As a result, the lower jaw often postures forward to avoid these interferences. The forward position "appears" as merely an underbite. In reality, it may be wisdom tooth interferences forcing an underbite.

IF, HOWEVER, you have other family members with underbites, it is not likely that your wisdom teeth are the cause of the underbite. See an oral surgeon about your wisdom teeth. He/she will inform you if your problem requires wisdom tooth removal, orthodontics, or both.
