Question:
Wisdom teeth - cheek swelling: I had my 4 wisdom teeth extracted about a month ago.
I am a very thin person, so naturally I always had a thin face. The swelling following the extractions went down to a normal level but never back to where it was before.
I have been very depressed because it seems my fuller face is permanent, and my once nice oval shaped head is round. I have restorted to not looking in mirrors anymore. I had it checked for infection but its all healed up fine.
I am pretty devastated. Any ideas, suggestions, etc? ...Visitor from GA
Answer:
I don't know how difficult your extractions were or how long the procedure took, but will tell you that the more difficult the procedure and length of time involved, the more swelling you will have.
It is not unusual for swelling from wisdom tooth extractions to take 6 months and possibly a year to resolve.
I will hope that your face will return to normal after several more months. It is difficult for you to see an improvement since you see yourself every day. I would take a full face picture now and then another in a few months and compare. Bet you'll be surprised to see the improvement.
If you see no improvement over time, you might want to consult the dentist who did the work to be sure there are no other problems.
