Question:
Delayed treatment causing more problems? Two days ago I had a filling replaced in my lower wisdom tooth. The filling had been missing for about 3 months.
My dentist told me the cavity was very deep and if I had any more trouble with the tooth that he would recommend extraction. I have had fillings before and I understand that there is some soreness and sensitivity for a few weeks afterwards, but my tooth and ear has been bothering me all night and all day.
I shined a flashlight on it and notice that there is a small amount of pink next to the filling. I swabbed it with a Q-tip and it looks to me to be blood. My uestion is do you think the new filling is resting on a nerve? Why is my tooth bleeding around the filling? ...Visitor from PA
Answer:
It sounds like your dentist tried his best to treat this wisdom tooth and be consevative.
If you left this tooth open for three months prior to seeking treatment, the bacteria has probably gotten into the nerve.
Root canal treatment can save this tooth, but as your dentist recommended it's time to see the oral surgeon and get this infected tooth out.
