Question:
Sinus Cavity: My husband recently had his wisdom teeth removed.
The upper left ended up going into his sinus. It's still there.
What problem can occur from this and is this normal? What should be our next steps? ....Visitor from TN
Answer:
Teeth that go up into the sinus should be removed to prevent infection, blockage or other problems.
Sometimes the surgeon will give the tooth time to fibrose or get fixed in the tissue, then imaging can be done in the form of a catscan or other x-rays to find the location of the tooth.
It is then removed by making a small window into the sinus and removing the tooth.
If the dentist that removed the tooth and pushed it into the sinus doesn't do this Caldwell-Luc procedure then ask to be referred to an oral surgeon for treatment.
