Question:
Bone Loss / Gum Recession in Dementia Patient: My dad, who is 92 has severe gum recession bone loss and has dentures that no longer stay in his mouth.
To add to this problem, he has dementia. Is there anything that can be done to make dentures that will stay? Adhesives don't work. ... Visitor from FL
Answer:
The only thing that is left is probably implants of some kind... but it may require bone grafting.
Subperiosteal implants may also be an option.
Get some consults with implant periodontists or reconstructive dentists who have the technical skills and access to the growing number of choices in bone graft products and procedures.
There are more choices available to patients who have lost dental function due to the normal jawbone resorption that is caused by long term denture use.
