Bone Loss Ask The Dentist Corinne Scalzitti Question:
Too Late for Jawbone Graft?: I am almost 60 with a full upper denture since age 17.

I am on my 3rd plate and the last one was dramatically altered due to significant bone loss after several years of oral steriods for asthma. Even with diligence I have lost more and am wondering if I am too late to have an implant for the upper plate.

I am experiencing more pain with the denture whereas in the past I seldom had an issue. I worry that I have so little upper bone to have a denture stay in place. ... Visitor from TX

Answer:
Even with significant bone loss, it might be possible to have implants with bone grafts to support an upper denture. Usually 4 implants are required to hold an upper.

You might look for a dentist who does implant supported dentures and see whom he works with to place the implants. Most dentists will do a complimentary consultation.
