Question:
I had a broken tooth and went to the dentist. He told me that I would need a root canal but the tooth was abcessed. He did a pulpectomy and put in a temporary filling. He did not give me any antibiotics to treat the abcess. He just told me to take Aleve. Should this be treated with antibiotics? Also is there anything better for the pain that just Aleve? The area is throbbing and very sore. ...Tammy

Answer:
Tammy, I recommend that you contact your dentist immediately and inform him of your symptoms. Most likely he will want to consider an antibiotic and a stronger pain medication for you as well as possibly proceeding to the completion of your root canal.
