Crowns Ask The Dentist James Sanderson Question:
I went to the dentist to check and clean my teeth. A week later my crown( at the bottom of very last one) came off and I could see small hole on my crown! I think that small hole made the crown come off. My crown is just 2years old. I put them when I was in Japan. I feel that the cleaning my teeth made that small hole. Do you think it is possible?

In Japan it does not cost too much to put the crowns so I thought its ok to put new crown....but I found out that the crown is expensive in America, so I just want to find out that it is possible that small hole on the crown may be made by cleaning the teeth. They were using like drill to take off my plaque so. ...Visitor from Japan

Answer:
I am sorry that you have this problem. If I were you I would say that it would be best to return to the dentist and have the crown replaced. It may be possible to recement the crown that has come off. If you have decay then it may not be possible to recement the existing crown. If that is the case you will need to have another crown placed.

I would not expect that the work you recently had done is the cause of your problem. The electronic scalers do not have the ability to cut a hole. They only vibrate. I hope this is helpful to you.
