FAQ:  Chipped Teeth

  • My 2 front teeth are chipped on the bite. Would white fillings be better than crown? I don't really want to go to drastic if possible. ...Visitor from UK     (answer)

  • Recurring Chip on Lower Tooth: One of my lower front teeth keeps chipping. I've had it repaired twice and the repair keeps chipping off. My dentist says it is due to this tooth being out of line with the surrounding ones (out in front) and that the other teeth are exerting pressure causing the bonding to re-chip. Is this accurate or it is possible that he's just not that good and the procedure? ...Visitor from CA     (answer)

  • Chipping teeth: I noticed that my teeth have been chipping away slightly (primarily my front teeth). I've always been told that my teeth are perfect and beautiful; however, they seem to be more weak. I am 33 years old and I do have evidence of grinding. I recently began to drink coffee. Is it possible the acidity has contributed to this weakness? Is there a supplement that may help strengthen my teeth or procedure? I do have very nice teeth and it's as if I'm beginning to slowly loose them. I have even noticed some fillings on the front where the dentist covered exposed root from gum disease popping out (as if they are not staying), is this a result of grinding? ...Visitor from FL     (answer)

  • My lower left teeth are chipping. I can feel something pointy with my tongue. It feels weird and I don't know why this is happening to me. I am only 22 years old. I don't eat anything crunchy or hard and I brush my teeth regularly 3 times a day. What can I do? What kind of toothpaste do you recommend? What can a dentist do for me ...Visitor from NC     (answer)

  • Fillings and Chipping: I am 28 yrs old. Recently I found that 2 of the major fillings had come out, so I went to a random dentist and got it done. When I inspected my teeth carefully I could see that a couple of my teeth have been chipped out and slowly they are reducing in size from the bottom of the tooth. What might be the reason for chipping out and decreasing in size of my teeth? I don't grind at day/night, don't smoke, no alcohol and brush my teeth regularly. ...Visitor from CA     (answer)

  • Bad Chipping on front teeth: Four of my front teeth are very badly chipped, two are significantly worse than the other two. The two that are not so bad do not have to much damage and a large portion of both are still intact.. I went to a cosmetic dentist to find out my options, and he only gave me one. To completely remove all of them and replace them with a bridge, but before that he said he would have to give me a root canal on two of my back molars, they were damaged, I guess. He said that he had to do the root canals first before he would do anything. I am going to be paying cash when I decide what I want to do, and I know this will be extremely costly. What I am wondering is this really my only option? The thought of having to lose my front teeth at 24 is horrible. ...Visitor from OH     (answer)

  • Chip Bonding Failure: I have a chipped tooth and I've had bonding but it keeps coming off. Someone told me that if you leave it alone eventually it will come down to meet the other tooth. Is this true and if so how long does it take? ...Visitor from PA     (answer)

  • Different treatment options: I've had bucked teeth since I was born. Now, after a hockey accident, two of my front teeth have been chipped badly. What are the forms of orthodontic cosmetics that are available and what are my options? ...Visitor from CA     (answer)

  • Small Tiny Chip: What can you do to fix a tooth if a little piece is chipped from the bottom of your top right front tooth? ...Sarah in OH     (answer)
