Flipper Alternative
Question:
Partial Denture or Flipper? My front tooth is missing.
Can a dentist put in a flipper immediately? ... Visitor from NY
Answer:
Absolutely!
It would have been better if the dentist takes an impression or mold of the your teeth with that one still in place, however, the lab can still fabricate a flipper after the fact.
There are a few types of temporary restorations that can be used until the area heals for an implant.
One is the traditional type pf flipper where a large piece of pink plastic holds the tooth that is missing much like a retainer taht covers the palate.
The other type is actually a replacement for a traditional flipper. It has the appearance of a clear Invisalign type of device that fits over the teeth. A Pontic (false tooth) is placed into the missing space.
Not only do I feel this is more stable, it protects the ridge better as compared to resting on it causing more bone loss. Take a look at the flipper alternatives page.
