Of course, your condition needs to be evaluated in a comprehensive manner to determine the exact nature of the remedy. I observe the most frequent cause of a "gummy smile" to be an inconsistency in the position of the supporting bone and gumline.
Very often, there is more tooth which can be exposed which changes the proportion of tooth to gum in a patient's smile. The procedure which most often corrects for this discrepancy is called esthetic crown lengthening or sometimes referred to as a "gum lift."
The result is a more pleasing smile. In addition, if the esthetic crown lengthening does not result in a fully satisfactory result, other procedures exist to limit the upward mobility of the lip.
