Question:
My 4 year old daughter has several bad teeth. Her two front teeth are overtaken with cavities. She also has at least 4 or 5 more teeth that have become severely rotten with cavities. She has been having severe toothaches. We have been giving her Children's Tylenol 80 mg. 2x's every 2 hours and Oragel for the pain, but nothing seems to help.
I am afraid if we keep giving her the Tylenol she will overdose. She has been up all night long and her tooth still has not stopped hurting. Is there anything that I can give her to stop the pain. I won't be able to get her into the dentist office until Monday. I really need some advice, I hate to see my baby hurt. ...Angela
Answer:
Angela, for right now, you are doing the best thing. I'd switch to either Advil or Motrin for the pain. Tylenol works; but the other two are better for pain. Orajel seems to work for a little while; but not long. The best thing to do is to go to the dentist and have them take care of the problem. More than likely, she will need a pulpotomy. (basically it's a baby tooth root canal/nerve treatment; however it's much easier) For now, try Advil or Motrin and make an apppointment to see the dentist tomorrow.
