Question:
Root tip left: My oral surgeon attempted to get the root tip left over 20 years ago when my wisdom teeth were taken out and removed part of my jaw.
He was unable to locate the root tip and said the only other way to get the root tip is through surgery. He suggested he could go through the outside of my cheek and face area.
Is this the only way? I have incredible pain.
Diagnosed with fibromayalgia and RA several years ago after the 2nd oral surgery in attmepts to remove the root tip and wondering if this could be related. ...Visitor from CO
Answer:
What might be a better resource for locating and successfully removing a root tip fragment is a Periodontist who has access to a cone beam ctscan. 3D imaging far outstrips what old fashioned 2D xrays can provide.
The symptoms you are having are not uncommon for root tip fragments that have been left behind. Infections typically accrue that can be very difficult to treat as they become deeply seated in the jawbone.
