Question:
A couple of months ago, my husband had a few fillings put in his teeth. Some were pretty extensive. They were his upper front teeth and some teeth on the left-hand side. Since then he has developed an EXTREME amount of sensitivity.
It's to everything. Hot, cold, even the air he breathes when he's working, etc. We've tried the dental toothpastes. They don't work at all. Our dental insurance is tapped out for the year now since he had the work done so we can't go back to the dentist right away. It's getting worse every day and making him very miserable. Can you suggest anything, please? ...Visitor from OH
Answer:
I suggest you talk to the dentist who put them in. If your husband was
advised that he may need root canals (because the cavities were close to the
nerve) you don't have too many options left other than doing the root
canals.
If the fillings are not that deep, you should not be getting sensitivity... you should get the fillings replaced and talk to your dentist about properly sealing your fillings to prevent sensitivity. Nothing will work for the symptoms you describe, because your symptoms indicate a developing infection...most likely caused by deep cavities.
You shouldn't rely on your dental insurance to take care of your health. Dental benefits are like an extra bonus to help you cover some, if any, of your dental care.
